FAQs
WHAT’S THE PROCESS - HOW CAN I GET TEDDY BOOKED IN?
1) When you first contact Davey Bears to ask for a quote, you will need to upload some photos together with a detailed description of what you would like to see. Following that, please call us when convenient so that we can initially discuss your expectations in depth. Things to keep, like Granny’s darning etc.
We will then either book you in for a face-to-face appointment, or book a date slot for your Teddy to be posted by.
2) On receipt of your treasured Teddy Bear/Toy, Ange will let you know immediately that they have arrived at Davey Bears HQ to put your mind at rest, as we know how important they are to you!
3) We will carry out a thorough inspection for which you will receive a detailed estimation of work needed.
As you can appreciate, this varies hugely dependent on the condition of the Teddy Bear and its age and why we don’t have a set price list. Only the items specified and agreed with you beforehand will be done.
4) Any ‘extras’ we come across will potentially be subject to extra charges and will be discussed with you before commencing, together with a photo of the work (if necessary), why it’s required, or if you would like it done, such as a hidden growler. If agreed, this will be added to the list of work required.
We will send you happy updates along the way so you can keep track of your beloved Teddy Bear.
CAN I SEND / POST A TEDDY BEAR TO YOU?
Yes, you can! We accept Teddy Bears and soft toys from all over the UK. However, you will be required to call us to book a date slot for your Teddy as we are very busy at the hospital. We advise our customers to always use TRACKED POST for your cherished Teddy Bear, as this will be the safest, most secure option and includes insurance. This is the ONLY method we use to send your much-loved Teddy Bear back to you.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
A quote will be given after the detailed inspection and assessment of the Teddy/Toy when it arrives. Unless agreed beforehand, eg: “just do whatever is needed”, we will have a full discussion with you about it, as we can appreciate that it can be more than expected at times, due to the nature of the work required.
HOW DO I PAY?
A fully itemised invoice will be sent by email to the address you provided - please check your junk/spam folders as they can land there.Payment is due immediately on completion of the service; if you sent us your Teddy Bear via post, the cost of return Tracked P&P will be added. The email will include what to reference and all details of our Business Bank for you to pay by BACs. (bank transfer) will be on the invoice. PLEASE NOTE: We do not accept cheques.
HOW LONG DOES IT ALL TAKE?
We do have busier times than others and the workload can vary depending on the condition of the Teddy Bear and the service required. What needs to be done is not always immediately obvious as when we undo the main seam it can reveal surprises, such as a hidden defunct growler or squeaker. Spa Days/Cleans can often be slotted in between other work and be quickly done.
DO YOU GIVE ANY GUARANTEES?
We believe in and guarantee our high-quality work 100% and ask that you inspect your Teddy Bear as soon as it arrives back to you. In the rare event that you are not happy, we strongly encourage you to speak with us directly asap - we are nice! - and we will do everything possible to make our customers happy. Please let us know within 48 hours of any issue you have, together with a photo/s, we can discuss further options available to resolve the issue and give you a successful, happy outcome.
IS THERE ANYTHING YOU DO NOT ACCEPT & WILL NOT WORK ON?
Any Teddy Bear arriving in any of the below conditions will be sent back immediately by issue of an invoice for return postage cost at the Clients expense. If the Client refuses return postage payment, the Teddy Bear WILL be disposed of.
1) Smelling extremely bad, or strongly of cigarette smoke/weed/other. In a consistent, heavy smoking environment Teddy Bears are impregnated with carcinogenic smoke throughout the stuffing, can often feel sticky to the touch and are not pleasant to work on.
2) Arrival with any type of human or animal bodily fluids on or in the Teddy Bear, such as blood, urine, faeces, vomit.
3) A Moth infestation. If your Mohair Teddy has moth casings, larvae or eggs, this could spread to other Teddy Bears in the hospital, and we cannot take the risk of this happening.
MY TEDDY HAS MOTHS! WHAT DO I DO? DO NOT FREEZE!!!
This is commonly advised online, but for vintage Teddies, can cause irreparable damage. If your Teddy does have a Moth infestation - Moths LOVE Mohair - this is what to do:
Order Moth Killing Papers here: https://amzn.to/3P3KXot
Add your Teddy Bear into a sealed bag together with Moth Killer Papers for AT LEAST 2 weeks to allow for the cycle of the moth to complete. After this time, take outside and thoroughly brush off.
WE’VE HAD COVID-19 IN OUR HOUSE - WILL YOU TAKE TEDDY?
If your Teddy Bear has been in a Covid-19 environment, please pop it in a sealed plastic bag for 72 hours before sending it to us to allow time for the virus to naturally die off. Pop a note in when sending. We all need to protect others around us, thank you.
